Footfalls of the Waning World doesn't try to do too much, and that is exactly why players keep circling back to it. If you are building a Warlock around Shadowform, the boots can feel almost unfair once they start feeding your movement loop. You lose or spend stacks, your Evade turns into Nether Step, and suddenly you are not just dodging, you are stitching repositioning into the fight. For anyone sorting through Diablo 4 runes and endgame gear at the same time, this is the kind of item that makes a build feel smoother straight away.
Why do these boots matter so much for Shadowform Warlocks? The short answer is uptime. Footfalls of the Waning World rewards you every time Shadowform stacks disappear, so a good Shadow build keeps the cooldown moving without you thinking too hard about it. That is the real trick. You are not saving Nether Step for some rare moment. You are using it all the time, slipping in and out of danger while your damage rotation keeps rolling. Players who lean on Recast or Abyss skills usually get the most out of it, because they burn stacks often enough to keep the loop alive. It feels natural once it clicks, almost like the boots are paying you back for playing aggressively.
How do you actually farm Footfalls of the Waning World now? Most players go after it through boss content, and that is where the current loot setup matters. Astaroth is named directly as a target source, while Bartuc shows up in the Warlock loot table, so you are not stuck with just one lane. Torment content is where serious farming starts, since these bosses sit behind higher-end progression and the drop rate improves as you move up. The Horadric Cube route is there too, but it is a random Unique Boots roll, not a clean guarantee. In practice, people end up mixing boss runs, material farming, and a bit of luck. If you are checking Diablo 4 runes for sale while you plan your route, it is because the whole setup pushes you toward efficient endgame grinding, not quick one-off drops.
The nicest part is that the boots do not demand a weird, narrow build. They just reward the kind of Shadowform play most Warlock mains already want to do: move fast, keep pressure on, and don't sit still. That said, the item is better when you can spend stacks regularly, so slow, cautious setups usually waste its value. If your build already wants constant repositioning, Nether Step starts to feel like part of your damage kit instead of a bonus dodge. That is why players talk about it as a quality-of-life piece first and a damage piece second, even though in real play it ends up being both.
